Long days of Summer

Perfect weather for late supper bar b que or dip in the pool. Remember to water the lawn early in the day or late in the evening. Don’t forget your pets. Make sure they get plenty of water.
Did you know that it is recommended for us humans too? It is reported that we should drink half of our weight (in ounces) in water each day. So if you weigh 10o pounds you should drink 50 ounces or if you weigh 200 pounds you should drink 100 ounces etc, etc. That will also keep you cooler. Have a great day

We are in the middle of the week and some of you are beginning to make plans for week end fun. Bar b que and pool parties and all sound great. Easy food is the way to go. check out the salad recipies on this blog. To keep them fresh, I freeze a small plastic container of water (fill it half way) and put it into the bottom of the bowl before adding salad. There are some bowls out there with removable bottoms to freeze, but this works just as well. If you do not want to use a container, a plastic zip bag will work too. just till it three quarters full and lay it flat on the bottom of the freezer if you want a flat ice cube or put it into a bowl if you want a round ice cube. It works just like those blocks of ice you buy in the store(at least for a little while)

Happy Monday

Boy, the week end is over again. Is it me or do they just fly by twice as fast as those week days? Anyway, we had a great pot luck. and ate so much that we decided to go for a walk before serving the many desserts. The evenings here are so wonderful. It cools down to 70 and is just right for walking. Of course today it is up over 90 so it may not do that today
I love all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are available this time of year. Use them to help boost your energy and health.
Bye for now!

Freeze it!
July 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment
When I am going on a road trip over an hour, I like to take along a cool drink. One way to make sure that it stays cool is to freeze it prior to leaving. Then it will defrost a little at a time as you travel giving you a cool drink when you need it. I use my freezer in many other ways. I have noticed that very often, one gallon of milk is a much better buy then two halfs. But since I usually need onlyone half at a time, I buy the whole gallon, put half ito a container for use and freeze the rest until needed. I keep grated cheese in the freezer until needed. It thaws quickly since it is grated. I’ll bet a lot of you have more ideas on how to use your freezer to save money. Please let me know if you do. Have a great week end.

Hot Sunny Day!

Don’t you just love these long hot summer days? I know I do, but it usually leaves me looking for something to cool me off. Smoothies or iced tea or a nice slice of watermelon work for me. Another thing I like that is healthy and cooling is frozen grapes. Freeze those little guys and each one becomes a sweet little treat. Or, just drop them into your next smoothie and they act as an ice cube as well as a fruit.

Check out our Summer salads to take to a Pot Luck

Fresh Vegetables and fruits make this the perfect time to make salads. Don’t be affraid to add both to a tossed salad. Beside the normal lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, you can add sliced black olives, sliced strawberries, dried cranberries, left over green beans, etc. You get the idea. Of course, to add some protein, you can add pieces of baked chicken and cheese. Get creative. Your family and guests will love it.
